Vintage Boudoir Workshop with Boudoir Louisville

That's right kids, Boudoir Louisville is offering a snazzy vintage boudoir workshop.

We have secured, what we believe, to be the most AWESOME location for this type of workshop. Here in Louisville, Kentucky we have an abundance of preserved historical buildings in our downtown area. The Palace Theater has to be the GRANDEST of them all! I mean, look at this place!

Elegant and ornate, The Palace exhibits a Spanish Baroque motif with arcades, balconies and turrets. All of which are PERFECT for photo shoots! Cobalt blue, bursts of red and gold indirectly light all of the niches, coves and entrances. Above is a curved, vaulted ceiling with 139 sculptures of the faces of historical figures. The theater room inside The Palace is heavily ornamented and displays an imitation nighttime sky on the ceiling.

The theater is two stories with a floor and a balcony. Both floors contain bars that run the width of the building behind the theater, separated by a grand lobby of intricate art and architecture.

Its uncommon appearance has made it a popular venue for musicians to record live performances (including Alison Krauss). The theatre features an array of popular movies, old and new, as well as concerts by popular artists.

Now that I have your attention, I'll give you some details.
If you have looked at any of my photos, and I'm sure you have if you want to come to my workshop, you'll notice that I light everything. Even photos that look like they were shot with natural light were snapped using some sort of lighting. I am a firm believer in repeatability. Using some sort of lighting makes this happen! Lighting your photo shoots also allows you to shoot in fantastic locations like the one pictured above. Without proper lighting in this location you would have a ton of really dark and grainy images.

The workshop will start at 10am on August 27th, 2012 and will wrap up around 6pm.
Cost for the workshop is a flat fee of $550, a 50% retainer is required to reserve your spot.
Sorry folks, we will not be offering our workshop to anyone within a 150 mile radius of Louisville, Ky.
We will start off with an introduction of all attendees before diving right into equipment talk. We will discuss camera settings, lighting modifiers etc...
After discussing the "nuts and bolts" of a boudoir shoot, we will chat about the psychology of shooting girls in their underwear. Believe me, this is a HUGE part of what we do. Next up, lunch. Sammies and other nosh will be ordered from one of Louisville's great deli's. Less time eating, more time shooting! After lunch, we will dive right in with shooting. I will show you exactly how I light my scenes and then make sure you are able to replicate it before turing you loose to snap a few images. Posing tips will also be discussed as well as using shadows and depth of field to hide certain things your clients may not like about their bodies. When we have shot as much boudoir as we can stand, we will have a Q&A type discussion about the days events. It's a lot to take in all at once! Workshop will end around 6pm, then it's time to talk about dinner plans. If anyone wants to grab dinner after the class for additional discussion, we are always game for that. Dinner always ends up being a discussion about marketing and the whole business aspect of what we do. We might even drop by the Boudoir Louisville studio for a quick tour if anyone wants to see it.

If you have ANY questions about the days events, please do not hesitate to call or email me.
Ryan@BoudoirLouisville.com Louisville is very inexpensive to fly into. There are also a ton of hotels within walking distance to the workshop location. Pretty much all of the great things to see and do in Louisville are right in this general area. Give us a shout for travel and lodging suggestions.

So, just a wild guess, I'm thinking you want to see some photos? Below are a few images we snapped on location at the Palace Theater last week. The girls we used were so much fun to shoot with and offered two TOTALLY different looks. If you are a seasoned boudoir photographer and are just wanting to attend as a way to add REALLY AWESOME images to your portfolio, bring it on! You'll get plenty of killer images.

Boudoir Louisville booth at Beatersville Car Show

A few days ago, Boudoir Louisville set up our booth at the Beatersville Car Show in Louisville, Kentucky. It's always a fantastic hot rod and rat rod show. This year, we had our good friends from the Pretty Things Peepshow sitting in our booth for the afternoon! That made things extra entertaining! We also sponsored the Miss Beatersville Pinup Girl Contest.
This years winner walked away with $900 cash and a $600 Bombshell photo shoot from yours truly!
Here are a few pics I snapped on my iPhone during the day. The group shot of Britt and I with all the pinup contestants, was taken by Jacob Zimmer. Thanks man!

Boudoir Louisville gets a little press!

Unleash your inner bombshell this Saturday with a pin-up modeling class from Go-Go Amy [Attractions]

Print
Go-Go Amy
Go-Go Amy and I met in a dirty bar in Las Vegas. She likely doesn’t remember me, but I remember her. She was a tattooed vintage beauty queen with smack-your-senses bright red hair and a shimmy I’d never seen. She also willingly climbed into a Chinese Execution Blade Box and shared the stage with a 27-inch-tall balloon-swallowing little person. Me? I just watched, wide-eyed and in wonder.

This was Pretty Things Peepshow, a traveling vaudeville troop featuring beautiful burlesque and an array of sideshow acts. Go-Go Amy founded it in New York City, inspired by her years of professional work as a burlesque dancer, pin-up model and costume maker. On stage, Go-Go Amy exuded confidence and poise, even before she peeled layers off in smoothly choreographed numbers. Like most good pin-up models and burlesque performers, her power was less in near-nudity and more in the winks, the “come hither” stare, and the shine in her eyes that suggested she was having more fun performing than I was having watching.

I left that rundown bar wanting to be Go-Go Amy, or at the very least, feel like she performed. This weekend, I get my chance. And so do you.

On Saturday, May 26, Go-Go Amy returns to Louisville to host her world-famous Pin-Up Class at Boudoir Louisville (414 Baxter Ave). The six-hour class introduces women to the history of the pin-up, teaches styling and posing tips, and ends with participants demonstrating their new abilities and knowledge in their own photo shoot. Everyone will receive a book with additional resources, in order to ensure that unleashing your inner bombshell isn't a one-time thing.

No prior pin-up knowledge is needed. The class stresses a fun, body-positive atmosphere and welcomes everyone both women who have little to no experience with makeup and seasoned models. Women will receive digital copies of their photos – great for portfolios, Facebook profiles and Christmas cards. OK, maybe not your Christmas card, but certainly the photos will serve as a reminder of your timeless beauty.

Women will bring their own pinup or old Hollywood outfits to the class. To get an idea of potential outfits, visit the photo galleries at Boudoir Louisville's website. Bring a few options, if you can. Whatever you don’t wear during class you can rock at Beatersville Car and Bike Show on Sunday, May 27. (There, Go-Go Amy and her Pretty Things Peepshow will perform, and Boudoir Louisville will sponsor a Miss Beatersville competition, whose contestants you can check out on their Facebook page.)

Go-Go Amy’s Pin-Up Modeling Class is $250, with $125 due upfront to reserve a spot. Reservations can be made at boringpaperwork.com. For additional details, e-mail Boudoir Louisville owner Ryan Armbrust atRyan@BoudoirLouisville.com. If you recognize the name, it may be because he is a contributing photographer here at Louisville.com.

Pinup girl in a bathtub! Ghost Town Adventures in Las Vegas!

While on a recent trip to Las Vegas, I booked an old mining town to use as a backdrop for some of my pinup photos. We had a lovely redhead to shoot, so that made us very happy. WE LOVE REDHEADS!
Jenni is always fantastic to shoot. I mean come on, who else is getting stripped down and laying in an old bath tub out in the middle of the desert? Here are a few shots from this set.
Enjoy!
